78. Choose an energy-efficient printer.

“Replication is the sincerest form of flattery.”

-Your clone

Here are 2 ways to print more energy efficiently-

  1. Select ‘eco-mode’ when printing.

-OR-

  1. Print a 3D printer that prints 3D printers

If a printer is energy-efficient, then printing a self-replicating 3D energy-efficient printer is even better. And as we are becoming more energy efficient, then we should print a 3D copy of our ‘energy-efficient’ selves… Call it a cure for clonelyness? (Just be sure to carefully discard any cloned version that gets stuck in the printer.)

To help you ‘choose a (self-replicating) energy-efficient printer,’ here's a simple 2-step process:

  1. Hello Dolly!
  2. Replicate-away

Your Future You only prints in energy-efficent mode because troubleshooting a non-energy efficient printer is both physically and emotionally draining. Your Future You wants you to save your energy so you can use it to figure out how to best delegate more tasks to your future clone.  Maybe tasking your future clone to go fetch those energy-efficient ink cartridges, which should hopefully cost less than Chanel No.5 by then

P.S. - It’s been reported that corporate housing companies help guests ‘choose an energy-efficient printer,’ by copying previous successful versions of corporate housing experiences - which may include furnishing your rental with an energy-efficient printer. And in the future, if you do end up cloning yourself, make sure you’re the original version instead a making a copy of a copy..

Why does this ‘Future You’ Series exist? What’s it about?

  1. Promote easy, quirky sustainable practices that are NOT preachy, or guilt-ridden and without a focus on the ‘saving the planet’ (hint: the planet is going to survive no matter what we do).

  2. A playful post of simple ways to sorta improve our lives, and the lives of those we love. Also improve our future lives… by taking playful action today.

  3. Still reading? Cool. We think you’re amazing and full of joyful zest.

This series is based off ‘105 Simple Sustainable actions’ - from Stephane Omsanski’s article in Parade from 2021.

78. Choose an energy-efficient printer.

Chances are your office is still relying on some very old printers. If possible, switch to an energy-efficient printer (at home, too!). After all, some newer printers use up to 84 percent less energy than older printer models
