22. Carpool!

We like one-word directives that end with an exclamation point! Some of them include Sing! Dance! CarWash! Don'tForgetToCallYourMom!

Carpool! became a forbidden word of sorts during 2020 and 2021, but we are in 2023, and the word and concept are back to help Future You make connections and get to work when walking or taking public transportation are less desirable options.

To help you Carpool!, here’s a simple 2-step process:

1 - Reach out to neighbors who are heading your way.

2 - Ready… wait for it… Carpool!

While this suggestion takes a little more effort in terms of coordinating schedules and locations, you and your Future You will benefit from reduced vehicles on the road and the increased connection from riding with fellow Carpoolers! After the ride is done, give your future self a high five, and then Don'tForgetToCallYourMom…And Dad! (It's been reported that Dad's have phones, too - I’m pretty sure...)

P.S. - It’s been reported that Corporate Housing companies help people Carpool! by working with people at the same company who are living in the same location. And your Future You is really starting to notice how corporate housing has become an indispensable aspect of your current you. Something you can also chat about when you #CallYourParents!

This series is focused on Simple Sustainable Actions - based on Stephane Omsanski’s article in Parade from 2021.

22. Carpool!

Carpooling is another meaningful option for Mother Earth. By the same logic as using public transportation, transporting more than one person in a car is always better for the planet than transporting just one person. Fewer cars equal less greenhouse gas emissions and less fuel needed.
