14. Spam-ish Siesta - Switch to paperless billing

Spam. There, I said it.  Spam is unwanted email.  Bills are historically known as unwanted mail - be it in paper form or electronically.  While we don’t recommend you ignore or move your bills to the Spam folder, we do recommend moving your bills from the unwanted snail mail kind, to the unwanted email paperless version.  So in a sense, your paperless bills are Spam-lite or Spam-ish.

To help you ‘Switch to Paperless billing,’ here’s a simple 2-step process:

1 - Contact the businesses that send you bills.

2 - Ask them for a “Spam-ish Siesta” (giving your paper bills a rest) so the only snail mail you receive will be holiday cards.

Your future you will not only thank you for reducing the paper required to pay your bills, your future you will also thank you for reducing the energy and effort needed to print, ship, mail and overwhelm the USPS mail carriers with your paper spam-ish.

P.S. - It’s been reported that Corporate Housing providers support this approach, as most companies should send their bills via email (or via your guest portal).  Corporate Housing providers will be proud to also give the postal men and women a much-needed Spam-ish Siesta this holiday season.

14. Switch to paperless billing.

Most—if not all of your expenses—provide the option for paperless billing nowadays. Whether it's a medical bill, your EZ pass statement, or credit card bills, enroll in paperless billing and pay online. That means less mail, which equals less paper gone to waste.

This initial series will be focused on Simple Sustainable Actions - based on Stephane Omsanski’s article in Parade from 2021.
