73. Adjust your Amazon settings to opt for less packaging.

Not every suggestion works out. We let ourselves off the hook. You should, too.

Amazon has enjoyed some success, but to get there, it’s had to ‘adjust its settings to opt for less …successful efforts.’ To name a few, here’s a list of Amazon’s 60 biggest failures

BTW, We are not bad-mouthing Amazon. Mr Bezo’s DC home is 5 blocks from our office - we want to still trick-or-treat there on Halloween (read:FULL-SIZE candy bars…by the pallet).

To help you ‘Adjust your Amazon settings to opt for less packaging,’ here’s a simple 2-step process:

  1. Log into Amazon
  2. Wait, there’s a sale on an Audible subscription. Hmmm, that LED light string that glows to music looks really cool. I didn’t know Sally Jessie Raphiel wrote a book.  …(27 minutes later) what did I log into Amazon for?
  3. The 2-step process didn’t really work out.

Your Future You sends many ‘adjustment’ messages. This week, your Future You wants you to ‘adjust your Amazon settings’ to ‘adjust your physical settings’ by getting outside to play more. Just set your Amazon visit to trigger a 9-second timer to send you outdoors to play. Studies show the benefits of screen time start to wane after about 9 seconds, and getting outside to play, geesh, we’re not even sure how to un-pack all of those benefits.

P.S. - It’s been reported that Corporate Housing Companies help you ‘Adjust your Amazon settings to opt for less packaging’’ by packaging ‘nearly all’ your needs in a comfy, choice-filled, joyous furnished monthly apartment. While one may need some ‘less-packaged supplies’ delivered over the months, if you rent one of our furnished properties in Dupont/Kalorama, one can also ring Jeff’s doorbell to be handed ‘less-packaged’ items (or pull from his palace of pallets). Then again, re-reading this, we’re reminded - not every suggestion works out.

Why does this ‘Future You’ Series exist? What’s it about?

  1. Promote easy, quirky sustainable practices that are NOT preachy, or guilt-ridden and without a focus on the ‘saving the planet’ (hint: the planet is going to survive no matter what we do).

  2. A playful post of simple ways to sorta improve our lives, and the lives of those we love. Also improve our future lives… by taking playful action today.

  3. Still reading? Cool. We think you’re amazing and full of joyful zest.

This series is based off ‘105 Simple Sustainable actions’ - from Stephane Omsanski’s article in Parade from 2021.

73. Adjust your Amazon settings to opt for less packaging.

If you tend to buy from Amazon.com, be sure to adjust your settings to let the company know that you'd prefer less extra packaging. There should be a way to do it in Settings, but you can also make a note on your account.
